Maryland Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy Sentencing Database

Circuit court sentencing outcomes have been systematically collected in the state of Maryland since 1983 with the inception of the voluntary sentencing guidelines. The data are provided by the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts. Data are collected from sentencing guidelines “worksheets” completed by courtroom personnel.

The database contains sentencing outcomes from three general time periods: (1) prior to the official implementation of the voluntary sentencing guidelines (November, 1982 - June, 1983) (4 counties only -- Baltimore City, Harford County, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County); (2) subsequent to the implementation of the original sentencing guidelines in July, 1983; and (3) subsequent to the revision of the sentencing guidelines in 1987.
